The Annandale Public School District board received an update on facilities planning, including a bid timeline for a new high school track and upcoming air-conditioning replacement work.
District staff told the board that Wold Architects and Engineering is finalizing bid specifications and that the district plans a bid opening on Feb. 27. Construction for the new track is scheduled to begin June 16 after the high school season ends, district staff said.
Officials said the project will be paid from long-term facility maintenance dollars provided by the state and reiterated that those funds are limited to building and grounds work and cannot cover operating costs such as staff salaries.
The district also said it is working on design and bid specifications for high school air-conditioning replacement; staff indicated a bid period in February will be used for that work as well. The facility update was part of the board's regular monthly review of enrollment and maintenance plans.
The board previously discussed the condition of the existing track during public comment and committee reports. One community member said the current track is in poor repair and that the school is not able to host meets on it. District staff said the planned work and funding approach are intended to address that need.
Board members and staff said they will continue to finalize specifications with the architect and move forward with procurement according to the published timeline.
