Warrick County School Corp. updates parents on state-mandated iLearn checkpoints, family portal and PSAT administration

Jason Fisher, Warrick County’s director of learning, updated the board on state-mandated iLearn checkpoint testing for grades 3–8 and said the district is in the fall administration window now open through Friday, Nov. 14.
“The iLearn checkpoints this year have been mandated in the state of Indiana that all schools participate in these,” Fisher said. He explained the checkpoints are administered in three windows (fall, winter and spring), assess English language arts and math only, and are shorter, checkpoint-style assessments designed to return data quickly to teachers and parents. Fisher said math checkpoints run about 30 minutes and ELA checkpoints between 30 and 45 minutes; question counts do not exceed 30 and results will be returned within 24 hours for the multiple-choice items.
Fisher told the board the checkpoints are not summative tests for science or social studies and that the Department of Education has no current plans to include those subjects. He said the state provides blueprints that list the standards assessed in each window; schools can choose the timing within the window based on when teachers determine students are ready to be assessed on those standards.
Fisher also reported the district administered the PSAT 8/9 to ninth graders and the PSAT/NMSQT to 10th- and 11th-graders on Oct. 8. He said the PSAT/NMSQT serves as the National Merit Scholarship qualifying test and prepares 11th-grade students for the SAT administered on the state-mandated school day in March.
On parent access, Fisher described a new IDOE family portal the district will use to distribute checkpoint results. “Each parent in grades 3 through 8 will receive a unique 6 digit code,” he said, and parents can use that code, plus their child’s birthdate and first name, to view checkpoint and summative data. Fisher added parents may also request printed reports from their child’s school. He noted that the portal will contain results going forward beginning with the 2025–26 administration; prior-year results will not populate the new portal.
Fisher said the portal will help the district meet Title requirements for providing assessment results to parents. He invited questions from the board and noted the state Department of Education website includes blueprints and standards for parents and educators who want deeper detail.
