Authority to hold study session on multipurpose-room lease used by Circle of Peace; legal and HUD review planned

Director Maritza Cervantes told the Board of Commissioners on June 4 that a lease for the authority-owned multipurpose room (used by the Circle of Peace program) had expired that month and legal counsel recommended scheduling a study session to review the lease terms and any conditions before deciding whether to re-lease the space.

Cervantes said Circle of Peace has continued program operations and provided sign-in sheets and plans while staff and legal reviewed the lease. "We recommend that we schedule a study session to be able to look over the lease, and make sure that we're crossing our t's and dotting our i's as to if and when and how we can lease it again or not," Cervantes said.

Cervantes told commissioners she would gather lease documents and HUD requirements in advance; she said staff would submit council recommendations to HUD for review and approval as needed so the authority would be "covered." Legal counsel suggested the study session; commissioners discussed possible dates and times and proposed a tentative morning session in late June to coincide with budget scheduling, though no formal date was set at the meeting.

One commissioner asked whether Circle of Peace had been informed; Cervantes said staff had been in contact with the organization and that Circle of Peace had continued to provide program plans and attendance records. Cervantes said staff would notify the organization once the study session date was scheduled.
