Evansville police pension board denies four applicants, accepts five and schedules June 10 disability hearing

The Evansville Police Department Pension Board on June 4 voted to deny four pension applicants and approve five others, approved the minutes of its May 7 meeting, reviewed payroll amounts for May and set a disability hearing for June 10.

The board voted to deny applicant numbers 24-142, 25-021, 25-013 and 25-041 after a motion was made during the open meeting; the denial was approved by voice vote. The board also voted to approve applicants 24-199, 25-030, 25-005, 25-018 and 25-077 later in the meeting, again by voice vote.

The meeting accepted the financial report for the 1925 fund, which showed payroll on May 15 of $251,301.43 and payroll on May 31 of $248,866.19. The board approved the minutes from its May 7 meeting; Treasurer Robert Gunter moved to approve the minutes and active member Jeff Breivogel seconded the motion.

Under new business, staff announced a disability hearing will be held June 10 at 9 a.m. in Room 307 at the Civic Center Complex; the June 18 meeting originally scheduled for applicant packets was canceled. Board members noted that a packet in the case of a pension hearing for an individual identified as Delano has been received and is under review; staff said a letter arrived this week and a final determination was not yet available.

Aaron McCormick, serving as president pro tem, presided over the meeting. Other board members present included Treasurer Robert Gunter, Secretary Rick Hubbard, active members Jeff Breivogel and Kyle Castle. Mayor Stephanie Terry, Chief of Police Phil Smith, active members Patrick McDonald and Adam Wiel and board attorney Keith Von Ray were recorded as absent.

The board set its next regular meeting for Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 8:15 a.m. in Room 307. The meeting opened at 8:51 a.m. and adjourned at 8:56 a.m.
