Kennett facilities director reports steady progress at New Garden and Greenwood elementary projects

Facilities Director Bryce told the Kennett Consolidated School District Board on Sept. 8 that construction at the district's two new elementary schools is progressing on schedule and detailed recent accomplishments at each site.
At New Garden, Bryce reported completion of exterior insulation, cafeteria stairs, roof-access ladders, gym windows, second-floor terrazzo flooring and front-entrance stonework. Playground equipment had arrived, layouts were completed and installation had begun. Work continues on brick veneer, window installation, ceilings, ductwork, electrical rough-ins, sprinkler rough-ins and drywall finishing; site work including curbs and footers was also underway.
At Greenwood Elementary, work completed included Basin 1 and its temporary parking, excavation of Basin 3 to support construction parking, installation of a new water main along the property's front and west sides, and roofing finished in areas A, B and C. A pedestrian crossover bridge and multiple stairways had been poured or installed, spray-foam insulation and air-barrier work were advanced on north facades, and interior masonry, cold steel framing and mechanical rough-ins were in progress.
Other updates: the fiber-optic line from the district office to the Yandex Building will be relocated outside the construction footprint to avoid damage, Kennett High School stadium fencing repaired after storm tree damage, a new projection-screen power feed completed in the auditorium, a fob reader is slated for the athletic trainer's room and Mary D. Lang had rooftop HVAC duct detectors integrated into the school's fire system. Bryce thanked custodial and maintenance staff for 39 summer workdays.
Why it matters: The construction milestones indicate active progress on the district's bond-funded capital projects. The fiber relocation and other systems work are intended to minimize disruption and keep projects on schedule.
Ending: Bryce said ongoing work will focus on remaining roofing, framing, masonry and interior systems; the board had no questions beyond brief clarifications about a stadium sign and thanked staff for their summer work.
