A Tempe community member and several board members praised Tempe Union staff for an expedited response after a microburst struck parts of the district earlier in the week, disrupting classes and campus facilities.
During public comment, Rodrigo Palacios thanked district leaders, naming Sean McDonald and Superintendent Dr. Wilson, for their response after the storm, saying, "It's been weird to be back for 2 days and actually not see our kids...we look forward to a successful second quarter." The board later and the superintendent publicly acknowledged the work of plant operations, maintenance staff and outside contractors who cleared debris and repaired damage.
Superintendent Dr. Wilson and operations staff described campus inspections and repairs that allowed staff to clear sites and prepare for a return to in‑person instruction the following day. School operations staff and the plant foreman led campus walk‑throughs; administration said they will continue to find and fix issues over the coming week.
Board members echoed appreciation for sites and district teams. Member Gutierrez Miller noted the district switched to asynchronous learning to maintain instruction while campuses were unavailable and thanked principals and staff for their swift coordination. Administration said campuses were safe for students to return the next day.
