Chief McMinn presented the Taft Police Department's operational statistics for January 2025 to the City Council on Tuesday. The chief listed 8 accident reports, 28 felony cases, 41 general cases and 37 misdemeanors for the month; he reported a total of 36 felony and misdemeanor arrests in January (28 misdemeanors and 8 felonies).
Chief McMinn also compared Taft’s 2024 full-year totals to a larger nearby department to place Taft’s workload in context. He said the other department (31 sworn officers) had roughly 22,017 total incidents in 2024, while Taft (13 sworn, including chief, lieutenant and administrative staff) had 10,385 total incidents for 2024. The chief used the comparison to note that Taft’s force handles a substantial workload relative to its staffing level.
Mayor Noor and council members praised the department’s activity level during the discussion; no formal actions were taken. Chief McMinn did not propose changes to staffing or specific policy actions during the open session report.
