City staff updated the Monrovia City Council on Feb. 4 about implementation of a new law regulating automotive repair businesses. The law, which took effect in June of the previous year, established minimum operational standards and a permitting process to address vehicles stored outside of bays and long-term storage.
Staff reported there are 58 automotive repair businesses in Monrovia. Of those, 14 currently hold permits and eight additional businesses have completed their compliance steps; staff identified four businesses that had not complied and said they were continuing outreach and enforcement efforts.
The presentation focused on enforcement steps and the targeted problems — vehicles stored outside of working bays and long-term on-site storage — and staff indicated they will return with further updates at a future meeting.
No formal action was recorded on Feb. 4; the council received the update and did not take a vote on enforcement at that time.
