Adams County commissioners approve CDOT Highway Users Tax Fund report

The Adams County Board of County Commissioners voted 5-0 Feb. 11 to approve a resolution adopting the 2024 Colorado Department of Transportation Highway Users Tax Fund (HUTF) report for the county.
Brian Staley, Public Works Director, presented the report and described the HUTF as a recurring, formula-driven revenue source assembled from state motor-fuel and road-user fees that apportions funding to counties. Staley said the HUTF “is important to the work that the public works team does to serve the community every day,” and thanked project manager Beth Podleski for overseeing the county’s annual submission.
Staley said the county uses HUTF, alongside other revenue streams, for routine work including snow removal, gravel-road maintenance, pothole repairs and intersection rebuilding. Commissioners spoke in support of pulling the HUTF report from consent to highlight its role. Commissioner Garcia (commenting during the discussion) thanked staff for describing the program for the public and said legislators had in the past sought to influence or limit local discretion over HUTF dollars.
Commissioner O’Dorisio moved to approve the resolution approving the 02/2024 CDOT HUTF report for Adams County; a second was recorded and the motion passed 5-0.
