Rules Committee forwards eight supervisorial appointments to full board after brief public comment

The Rules Committee moved jointly to forward eight supervisorial appointments (items 4 through 11) to the full Board of Supervisors with the committee's recommendation. The clerk recited each appointment and term as the committee consolidated the items for a single public-comment period.

Appointments read by the clerk included: Supervisor Mahmood to the Bay Area Quality Management District Board of Directors (term ending 02/01/2029 or at the end of his Board term); Supervisor Connie Chan to the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (indefinite or until the conclusion of her Board term); Supervisor Matt Dorsey as an alternate to the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (indefinite); Supervisor Danny Salter to the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District Board of Directors (term ending 01/31/2027 or end of Board term); Supervisor Connie Chan to the Free City College Oversight Committee (indefinite); Supervisor Myrna Melgar to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (term ending 02/10/2027 or end of Board term); Supervisor Matt Dorsey to the Reentry Council (term ending 06/01/2026 or end of Board term); and Supervisor Matt Dorsey to the Association of Bay Area Governments Executive Board (term ending 06/30/2025 or through his Board term).

A single member of the public, Leah McGeever, spoke during the consolidated comment period and criticized the appointment of the supervisor to the Reentry Council. McGeever identified herself as a District 6 resident and said: "And just judging off of all the legislation and what my or the supervisor is enthused to impose on us via criminalization and incarceration, especially of homeless and people addicted to drugs. I question if he's a good fit for everyone, who needs services from the reentry council or just seems pretty narrow minded and seems committed to recovery only via abstinence of any sort of drug consumption. And incarceration seems to be his solution, which seems kind of at odds with this reentry council. But that's just me. Thanks." No other speakers addressed the appointments.

Chair Walton moved to forward items 4 through 11 to the full board with recommendation. The committee recorded unanimous support: Vice Chair Cheryl, aye; Member Mandelmann, aye; Chair Walton, aye. The clerk noted the items would appear on the Board agenda of 02/11/2025.
