Committee recommends amended airport surveillance policy to full board; parking-guidance cameras added

Guy Clark, IT cybersecurity compliance manager for the airport, told the Rules Committee that the airport's automated license plate reader, ground transportation management system, and parking guidance (park-assist) system have been combined into a single amended surveillance-technology policy. Clark said the 2021 policy approval previously covered the automated license plate readers, and the amendment adds park-assist parking guidance to the inventory and updates authorized use cases, business justification, data-sharing and retention, and compliance assignments.

Clark said two use cases were added for the parking guidance system: to help guide customers to available parking spaces and to help customers locate their vehicles if they forgot where they parked. He emphasized that the parking-assist system "does not retain the license plate data, from that perspective." Clark also said the airport worked with "Coit" in reviewing the policy and that members of the parking management group were added to compliance responsibilities for the new technology.

No public speakers addressed the item. Chair Walton moved to forward the amended ordinance to the full Board of Supervisors with the committee's recommendation. The motion passed unanimously with Vice Chair Cheryl, aye; Member Mandelmann, aye; Chair Walton, aye.

Airport staff said the policy updates aim to reduce driver search time for parking, streamline terminal traffic, reduce emissions, and increase parking efficiency and revenue opportunities. Clark offered to provide additional slides and information if the committee or the Board requests them.
