Council approves Eagle Scout bat-house project for Virgil Park

The Town of Brownsburg Town Council approved an Eagle Scout project to install bat houses at Virgil Park on Feb. 18, 2025.
Aiden Claycomb, an Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 396, presented plans to construct four bat houses mounted on two poles at Virgil Park, explaining placement criteria (sunlight exposure, distance from trees, water access) and an estimated budget of about $500 total. He told the council construction could take one to four months depending on weather and availability of volunteers.
Parks staff and council members voiced support. After a brief discussion the council voted by voice to approve the project. Council members and staff asked about fundraising and logistics; Claycomb said funds would come from donations by friends, family and troop members and that adults would handle cuts while youth would assemble, prime and paint the houses.
The Parks Department will coordinate installation and fundraising and report back on the schedule and completion.
