City accepts $2 million tied to Vista grant for Rogers Lane lighting project

The Lawton City Council on Dec. 3 approved a $2,000,000 appropriation to the Capital Improvement Projects Fund for a lighting project on Rogers Lane (I‑44 and U.S. 62), funding provided through a public‑private partnership grant administered by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
City staff said the award stems from a broader grant written to benefit the Vista facility that included multiple components: a secure classified facility, a STEM lab renovation, an incubator/accelerator fund, conference-space expansion and an infrastructure portion that directed $2 million to community lighting. Fort Sill leadership supported the grant application and signed off on the initiative, staff said.
Council voted 8-0 to approve the appropriation. Staff and the mayor thanked state officials and Fort Sill leadership for their roles in securing the grant money. Public works staff will manage project procurement and construction under the CIP schedule.
Council did not discuss contractor selection at the meeting; staff said the appropriation will be used to begin procurement and design tasks.
