The Timberlane Regional School District board approved updates to key policies affecting health services, emergency response and staff conduct.
Policy JLC (Student Health Services): The board approved JLC on first and second reading and adopted the updated language. The policy aligns Timberlane practice with state Department of Education requirements for school nurse certification and clarifies district responsibilities for health plans and nurse roles. Administrators told the board the DOE credentialing process now includes documentation of pediatric experience and BSN expectations; district HR staff said recent hires moved through credentialing quickly.
EBCA (Crisis Prevention and Emergency Response) and GBEB (Staff Conduct): Both policies were brought back after policy-committee review. Administrators explained some operational and procedural details that had been raised by board members were better handled through internal procedures rather than public board policy (to avoid publicizing sensitive security details). Policy language was adjusted to avoid broad "superintendent or designee" access for uploading emergency plans; the board told staff access to full emergency plans will remain limited to appropriate administrators and the superintendent.
The board voted to adopt EBCA and GBEB at second reading. Staff said HR and administrators will continue to provide employees with required code-of-conduct and ethics materials on hire and renewal and that these practices are already in place.
Board members approved the policies by roll-call and voice vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
