Bettendorf recognizes TBK Quad Cities Marathon participation and awards holiday parade ribbon

At the Dec. 17 meeting the council accepted a participation award from Joe Moreno, race director of the TBK Quad Cities Marathon, and presented the Quad City Arts Festival Trees Holiday Parade ribbon for best balloon handler costume.
Joe Moreno told council the marathon has run for 27–28 years and thanked the municipalities and city staff for longstanding support. He said that of the four municipalities, Bettendorf had the most participants per capita for the most recent race. Moreno credited city planning and connecting bike paths for encouraging recreation and said the police, fire and parks departments and city staff provide critical support to make the event possible.
Michelle Spencer presented the Quad City Arts Festival Trees Holiday Parade ribbon. Spencer said the parade had about 120 participants, with roughly 50–60 employees and their families contributing to the total. A short video of balloon handlers was shown and the council noted a new balloon handler required assistance when their hand became tangled in ropes; no injuries were reported.
The council thanked Moreno, city staff and volunteers for organizing community events that draw visitors to the area. No formal council action or vote was required for these recognitions.
