Fairview authorizes application for TDOT planning grant to update major thoroughfare plan

The Fairview Board of Commissioners on Oct. 16 authorized the city manager and city planner to submit an application for a Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) planning grant to prepare a new major thoroughfare plan and committed to providing the required local match if the grant is awarded. The board voted 5-0 to approve Resolution 507-25.
City Planner Keith Greer told the board that Fairview’s existing major thoroughfare plan dates to 1982 and does not reflect current or projected growth, particularly along Highway 100 and Highway 96. TDOT’s planning grant program funds studies that improve safety, connectivity and transportation efficiency.
Greer said staff estimates the major thoroughfare plan work could cost up to $150,000, with a required local match of 10 percent (about $15,000). Section 3 of the resolution commits the board to adopt the major thoroughfare plan by resolution once it is completed.
Greer said the city is working with the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) on the draft application; GNRC will review and return comments before final submission. The application deadline was noted as the end of the month; the board moved and seconded the item and approved it by roll call.
The resolution instructs the city manager and planner to execute documents necessary to apply for the grant and, if awarded, to provide the local match and adopt the final plan by resolution. The board’s approval enables staff to proceed with the application and follow-up steps, including any further public outreach and workshops recommended by staff.
