Facilities report: beam repair, fire alarm, cameras, chiller and traffic-light projects discussed

Facilities staff provided the board with updates on multiple projects at district schools during the Jan. 27 meeting.

Doug, a district facilities staff member, reported a sag in a beam supporting partition walls in the employee center; the architect and engineer are working on a fix and staff are coordinating timelines with the architect (Allen Hill) and the engineer. The board was told they are awaiting final design and scheduling.

Doug said a new fire alarm at the high school is installed and running; staff addressed false alarms after initial installation and reported the system is now functioning.

An architect (Allen Hill) was engaged on a west basement project; staff submitted plans to the local fire marshal and were awaiting review. Camera system upgrades are under way: the high-school system is online and the middle-school cameras had wiring completed and were expected to be activated imminently.

Doug said the traffic-light project included poured pole bases and that crews were scheduled to set poles mid-week. The high-school chiller replacement was scheduled in phases: contractors planned to recover refrigerant from old chillers next week, and the new chillers are due to ship April 14; staff will coordinate crane and installation logistics once shipment dates are firm. Window blinds ordered for the middle school have been manufactured and will be installed once received.

No formal board action was requested; the update was informational and staff invited questions.
