Board approves five-year RomCo contract for Volvo heavy-equipment service

The City of Denton Public Utility Board on Feb. 24 approved a contract with RomCo Equipment to provide diagnostic, repair, rental and acquisition services for Volvo construction equipment used across multiple city departments.
Tom Grama, director of facilities and fleet services, told the board the contract would cover purchases, rentals and repairs for Volvo construction equipment used for bulk material movement and other city services. He said Volvo uses proprietary diagnostic systems that require dealership-level service, which is why the city continues to use RomCo to service those units.
Grama said the proposed contract structure is a one-year agreement with four one-year extension options and a five-year not-to-exceed total of $5,313,000. He noted that individual vehicle acquisitions will still go through the city’s regular budgeting process and that the city is obligated to pay only for services rendered.
A board member asked how much of the heavy-equipment fleet is Volvo; Grama pointed to the agenda summary, which lists the quantity (about 22 Volvo items) and said the agenda information sheet contains the specific count and fund breakdowns. The board voted to approve the contract; the chair announced the vote passed unanimously.
