The Salinas Historic Resources Board approved the minutes from its Jan. 6 meeting and directed staff to explore a local government membership in a California preservation organization that would provide continuing-education opportunities for board members.
Board member Jefferson Shin moved to approve the minutes as amended; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Wadsworth. Roll-call votes recorded support from Commissioners Wadsworth, Shim, Callender, Masgay and Chair Hirahara; the motion passed.
Planning Manager Grant Leonard briefed the board on a proposed local government membership in the California preservation organization that would offer webinars and certified continuing-education hours. Leonard said the city would pay for a local government membership and staff would circulate links for members to claim credit for certified webinars. The board expressed support for pursuing the membership and asked staff to identify funding and report back.
Staff also noted upcoming agenda items: the consultant for the citywide historic survey is scheduled to attend the board in March to present the survey approach, and staff will continue to gather information on the Empire House permit and construction activity. The board asked for a Chinatown-focused presentation to be scheduled in April.
