Dare County board authorizes chairman to sign letter supporting cleanup at Buxton FUD site

Dare County commissioners unanimously authorized the chairman to sign a letter expressing the county's support for cleanup actions at the FUD site in Buxton.

County staff told the board a letter had circulated from a number of local entities requesting congressional action to clean up the site. Because the county could not join or sign that existing letter without board approval, staff asked the board to authorize a similar, county-signed letter endorsing the cleanup requests. "We're asking for permission for the chairman to sign and send out indicating our support for the things that were in that letter with regard to cleanup of that FUD site," the County Manager said.

Commissioner Bateman moved to permit the chairman to sign the county letter; Vice Chairman House seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

The county did not provide the full text of the letter at the meeting nor specify which congressional offices would receive it; staff said the letter would reflect the items described in the previously circulated correspondence from other entities and would be transmitted under the chairman's signature once approved.
