Kathy Hammondway, executive director of the Walnut Creek Downtown Association, updated council Jan. 21 on downtown programming and said the association has launched a vision‑planning process funded by Measure O campaign dollars.
Hammondway said the association conducted an initial SWOT analysis with staff and its executive committee, will meet with its full board next week and then follow with community outreach including focus groups and a survey to develop three‑ to five‑year goals.
“We have finally launched our vision plan,” Hammondway said. She added that the 2025 events calendar will be announced later in the week, with booth registration opening online.
Hammondway also reported that Walnut Creek on Ice concluded its season and that staff began dismantling the rink within 24 hours of closing; she said a full season recap will be provided in March.
Council members asked a few details about the ice slide and event logistics; downtown association staff noted high public interest and outreach channels, including an e‑newsletter, social media and banners around the city.
