New early‑childhood building on schedule and under budget, contractor says

At the Jefferson City School Board meeting, SM Wilson representatives reported construction progress on the new early‑childhood building and said the project remains on schedule and under budget.
"We're not way ahead of schedule, but we are on schedule," said Matt Frank of SM Wilson, describing site progress since the last report. He said the project is "just over 50%" built in one comment and Emily Plekner later said the project is about 58% complete when accounting for stored materials and purchased fixtures.
Contractors showed photos and described recent milestones: concrete slabs and structural steel for the storm-shelter section are in place and the roof is on; brick veneer and metal panel installation are under way; interior drywall and ceiling work are moving into finishing stages in administrative and service areas. Plekner described the storm shelter as a roofed, reinforced area with a concrete slab that contributes to the building's safe-shelter function.
Frank and Plekner said materials are staged in warehouses (flooring, light fixtures, doors and hardware) so interior finishes can proceed quickly when scheduled; that staging accounts for part of the difference between "percent complete" calculations. Board members praised the work and noted the project remains under budget.
