Walnut Creek proclaims January Human Trafficking Prevention Month; Contra Costa task force recounts local survivor services

Mayor Cindy Darling presented a proclamation at the Jan. 21 meeting recognizing January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month and urged residents to strengthen community protections.
Katrina Natali, representing the Contra Costa Human Trafficking Task Force, accepted the proclamation and described local work since the task force’s visit last year. She said a survivor had presented to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with critical injuries and that Walnut Creek police and a task‑force partner, Community Violence Solutions, responded to link the survivor to ongoing services.
“We are delighted that you did this proclamation,” Natali said. “Human trafficking is a county wide issue, happens everywhere…we went to six different establishments in the city with partners from state government, the police department and city code enforcement to ensure those businesses are operating legitimately and that survivors can get access to services.”
Natali also said the task force had worked with local churches on prevention programming for parents about online threats and that materials for residents were available; she left informational packets with the city clerk.
Mayor Darling thanked Natali and the task force for the work and for local partnerships that connected survivors to services.
