The Jonesboro Public Works Committee voted to recommend that the City Council contract with DTA to perform a citywide impact-fee study and authorized the Impact Fee Review Committee and staff to complete contract and administrative tasks.
The resolution states the city is reviewing proposed zoning changes and needs an impact-fee study to determine what, if any, fees would be appropriate. The Impact Fee Review Committee met Dec. 3, 2024, and voted unanimously to recommend accepting DTA’s proposal; the resolution authorizes the mayor and city clerk to execute documents to effectuate the agreement.
A committee member reiterated during the meeting that the measure authorizes a study, not the imposition of impact fees. Resident Patty Lack spoke in favor of conducting the study and said, based on her own review, that a fee could “go out a thousand to $3,500” on a house and that a $59,000 study cost would be reasonable; those remarks were framed as her opinion and recollection.
There was a motion and second to recommend the resolution to the full City Council; the committee voted in favor. The resolution directs staff and the Impact Fee Review Committee to finalize contractual details with DTA and return the executed agreement as required for council action.
The City Council will consider the contract and any study findings before the city takes action on impact fees.
