Cannon County Board approves $65,911 welding-station bid, sets budget dates and opens director search

The Cannon County Board of Education approved a $65,911.18 contract for welding stations at Cannon County High School, set two budget meeting dates and authorized a public posting for a new director during its Dec. 12 meeting.
The actions were taken by unanimous recorded votes (four ayes, no nays). Board members approved the consent agenda and the meeting agenda earlier in the session.
The board approved a bid from Patent Welding to supply welding stations for the agricultural shop at Cannon County High School for $65,911.18. The motion to approve the bid was made by Board Member Mullins and seconded by Board Member Mills; Board Members Curtis, Mullins, Thomas and Mayo voted in favor.
Separately, the board set two budget meeting dates: Jan. 27, 2025, and Feb. 24, 2025, both at 6 p.m. in the Adams Committee Room (with the boardroom as an alternate). The motion to adopt the dates was made by Mullins and seconded by Curtis and passed by the same aye votes.
The board also authorized a public posting for the district’s director of schools. The posting period was approved to run Jan. 6, 2025, through Jan. 24, 2025, with a 3 p.m. deadline on Jan. 24. The motion to post the position was made by Board Member Mills and seconded by Board Member Mullins; Curtis, Mullins, Thomas and Mayo voted aye.
Board members approved the meeting agenda and the consent agenda earlier in the session. The meeting minutes reflect a standard roll call and four affirmative votes for each formal motion recorded on the agenda.
Director of Schools Bonnie provided routine operational comments near the end of the meeting, wishing staff and the community well for the holidays and reminding the public that teachers return for professional development on Jan. 6 and students’ first full day of the spring semester is Jan. 7, 2025.
Financial, extra and supervisor reports were noted as having been covered at a workshop the preceding Tuesday; no substantive budget decisions were made at this meeting aside from scheduling the two budget dates.
