Councilmember Kearns explained the rezoning applies to parcels near South 14th Street and the ADM property, including a former road and parking area that ADM acquired and intends to use as part of shifting some operations. “This is the area right by South Fourteenth… they bought it,” Kearns said, explaining that aligning the map to M-2 reflects current and planned industrial use.
The council agreed there had been no objections during prior hearings, and members voted to suspend the two-reading requirement and adopt final passage. Councilors said the rezoning had proceeded smoothly and that no additional substantive comments were raised at the meeting.
Actions at the meeting show the council suspended prior-reading requirements and enacted the two rezoning ordinances, placing the parcels in the M-2 heavy industrial district.
