Members of the 38th Guam Legislature presented a resolution recognizing National School Counseling Week for Feb. 3–7, 2025, and thanked school counselors for their work supporting students academically, socially and emotionally.
Senator Chris Barnett introduced the resolution and listed attending legislators, including Sen. Vince Borja (chair of education), Vice Speaker Tony Atta, Legislative Secretary Sabrina Salas Matanane, Sen. Shelley Calvo, Sen. Therese De Lehi, and Sen. Jess Luhan. Barnett said school counselors “create supportive environments for learning to help students thrive” and noted their role extends beyond academics to helping students navigate personal and social challenges.
Nadine (identified in the meeting as president of the Guam Association of School Counselors) accepted the recognition on behalf of the association and thanked the legislators and Superintendent Angel Sablan. She said school counselors help students “to prosper academically, to develop socially and emotionally, to progress toward their future goals, and to be productive and successful members of society.”
The legislators commended counselors’ work across public, charter and private schools and congratulated recipients of the school counselor of the year presentation mentioned during the remarks. The ceremony was brief and ceremonial in nature; no formal policy actions, motions or votes were recorded on this item in the transcript.
