Chester County board adopts 2025–26 school calendar after community vote favors Option A

The Chester County Board of Education approved the 2025–26 school calendar (Option A) after district staff reported community feedback favored that plan.
Superintendent Mr. Gilger said the district offered six initial calendar options and narrowed the selection to Options A and D after an initial round of responses. He told the board that in a follow‑up period there were 163 responses and “nearly 75% selecting option A over option D,” and the board subsequently voted to adopt Option A. Gilger noted state law sets August 1 as the earliest possible start date for instruction.
A board member questioned scheduling conferences on a Thursday followed by a Friday school day; Gilger responded that the district considered participation patterns and state requirements for administrative days when developing the options. The board approved Option A by voice vote after a motion and second.
The packet provided to the board contained the two final calendar options and a page summarizing response counts; the district did not provide additional budget or staffing changes tied to the calendar during the meeting.
The board scheduled its next meeting for Feb. 18 at the junior high, beginning at 5 p.m.
