Levan hears grant options; CDBG rankings set for March 5

At a regular meeting in February 2025, a regional representative briefed the Levan Town Council on current grant opportunities and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) review schedule, urging staff and council members to consider application deadlines and match requirements.
The presenter outlined three programs open now: the UDOT Safe Routes to School program, which opened Jan. 13 and closes May 23 and funds crosswalks, signage and related projects within a few miles of schools; multiple outdoor recreation grants; and a Community Parks and Recreation (CPR) grant that closes March 17. He said the CPR grant can fund traditional park equipment, walking paths and similar improvements and typically awards up to $200,000 with a local match that varies by county classification (roughly a 20% match was mentioned as typical).
The presenter said the CPR grant could serve as a backup to the town’s CVG application and that staff could prepare a separate CPR application for the town’s ballpark project if needed. He told council members to contact him if they wanted help with applications.
On CDBG, the presenter said seven applications in the region would be rated and ranked by the executive board at a March meeting in Richfield. He told the council the board expected to fund five to six of the seven projects and that the state would also review applications for eligibility before final awards. Applicants should expect notification of funding or non-funding in the first week of March.
The presenter also reminded attendees about regional trainings and conferences: a regional growth summit session Feb. 27 in Richfield (limited to 75 attendees), the region’s larger annual summit May 6 at the Valley Center in Richfield, and the Utah City Managers Association conference April 14–18. He said the town would continue to receive monthly newsletter updates on grants and related training opportunities.
Council members asked for clarification on deadlines and meeting locations; the presenter confirmed the CDBG rating and ranking meeting is March 5 in Richfield and reiterated the CPR grant deadline of March 17.
The council took no formal action on grant applications at the meeting; staff said they would coordinate next steps with council members and prepare any necessary applications for upcoming deadlines.
