Denny French of Carson City urged the CAMPO board to survey and address potentially unsafe Americans with Disabilities Act curb ramps and tactile walking surface indicators in the community.
"I have a concern... the ADA ramps. There are ramps that are too steep and that they hit the asphalt at such an angle that a wheelchair then is in a bad spot," French said during general public comment. He described locations where tactile indicators (the raised-dot panels for visually impaired pedestrians) have dropped or where asphalt and ramp elevations do not meet safely, and asked for a survey and funding to correct the conditions.
French said he raised the issues earlier with the Historic Resources Commission and asked CAMPO and member jurisdictions to consider the ramps and detect locations where ramp slope or surfacing creates hazards. He did not provide a list of specific addresses during his remarks.
Chair Bagwell thanked French for his comments. No formal board action on the request was recorded at the meeting; the board adjourned to its next scheduled item after public comment.
