Boca Raton holds interviews for advisory boards; appointments to be made Jan. 14

The Boca Raton City Council conducted interviews for board and advisory‑board vacancies at its Jan. 13 workshop and said appointments will be made at the Jan. 14 regular meeting.
Monica Mea, a Boca Raton resident at 860 Southwest 20th Street, applied for the Environmental Advisory Board. “I was known as the environmental city council member,” Mea said, summarizing her prior municipal experience and saying she wanted to continue environmental advocacy on the advisory board.
Two applicants spoke for seats on the Planning & Zoning Board. Dorothy McDermott, who said she has been involved in the community since 1988 and holds a Florida general contractor license, described long‑term engagement with local historical and civic organizations and familiarity with planning‑board meetings. Jordan Sperling said he lives in Boca Raton and holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Florida Atlantic University and works in urban planning and project management; he told council his professional experience makes him familiar with zoning, land‑use policy and the duties of the planning board.
Council staff and council members said appointments will be made at tomorrow night’s meeting and that applicants do not need to be present to be considered.
