Votes at a glance: Uintah County Commission actions on routine warrants, roads and retirement changes

At its February meeting the Uintah County Commission took several routine administrative actions summarized here.

Tax deferral: The commission approved a deferral to remove parcel serial number 120160021 from the tax sale after the owner made a $500 payment and agreed to pay $225 per month through Nov. 1 toward $2,910.14 owed (see separate article).

Briar Creek Subdivision Phase 1 road acceptance: Matt Krizier of community development asked the commission to accept a Class B road (1550 South Street) within Briar Creek Subdivision Phase 1. Staff said the road is 662 feet long with a 50‑foot right of way, 36 feet of asphalt, 2 feet of curb and gutter on each side, 4‑foot sidewalks on each side, and that construction cost (including curb/gutter/sidewalk) was about $300,000. The commission voted to accept the road; a warranty cash bond is held by the clerk/auditor’s office and the winter season was counted toward the warranty period.

URS retirement service agreement and automatic enrollment: Clerk/Auditor Mike Wilkins presented updated service‑agreement language with Utah Retirement Systems (URS) to allow county matching across 401(k)/457/Roth options, with a maximum match of 2.5%. The commission approved a service agreement authorizing matching up to 2.5% for employees who contribute (the county currently matches the county 401(k)). The commission also approved automatic enrollment for new employees effective July 1 at a 2.5% default contribution that employees may opt out of or change within a 90‑day window; staff said this aligns with research showing higher participation under automatic enrollment.
