Seaside council adopts 2025 committee appointments

The Seaside City Council voted to adopt a resolution approving annual committee appointments for Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2025, during a special meeting Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at Council Chambers on Harcourt Avenue.

Council members said the vote formalized the city's list of representatives to local committees and interagency working groups. Councilors discussed who will represent Seaside on several regional bodies and clarified how some outside boards select their representatives.

Council member discussion focused on the city's upcoming rotation to serve on the Community Coast Energy board. A council member asked whether the council itself names the alternate for the board; City Manager Craig Mailing said the mayor's meeting and the county clerk oversee the rotation and that the city will send an appropriate representative when the rotation and formal transfer of responsibilities are confirmed. "It should be our time coming up but we have not had that meeting yet to officially, take over," Mailing said. The council agreed that, once the rotation is official, the city council will return the matter to this body to select who will represent Seaside.

A member of the public, Carlo Lobo, asked whether the listed Monterey Peninsula Unified School District trustee spot refers to a specific trustee or to any trustee who wishes to participate. Council members replied that trustees are chosen by that school board and that the city does not control which trustee the district sends. "We have no decision making authority about who they send and if they send anybody," the mayor said.

During roll call on the consent item, the council conducted a voice vote and the mayor announced the motion carried. The agenda's related item 7(b), described as a memorandum of understanding with "Blanky Arts" on the printed agenda, was removed prior to final approval.
