The Redondo Beach Police Department presented its community‑policing and volunteer programs update on Dec. 16, announced certification of Measure FP, and reviewed upcoming outreach and volunteer schedules for 2025.
A police representative told the commission that “Measure FP passed with more than 71.4% of Redondo Beach voters supporting the measure. It’s been fully certified.” The department described community events, the Citizens Academy, and a range of outreach programs. The police representative also said VIP volunteer hours totaled 3,522 for the year and that the department runs recurring public events such as Coffee with a Cop, a Red Cross blood drive and a public safety open house slated for March.
Budget and commission business: The commission received and filed a city‑prepared list of 2024–25 budget items that pertain to public safety and voted to direct staff to itemize and prioritize those items for discussion at a January special meeting. Commissioners identified equipment purchases, a homeless‑housing navigator position and software upgrades among their initial priorities to focus on.
Administrative actions and special meetings: The commission nominated and elected Commissioner Wodnicki as commission secretary in a roll call vote on Dec. 16. The commission also voted to schedule two special meetings in lieu of regular meetings that will be canceled for the January and February periods: a special meeting for Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, and a special meeting for Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025. Staff will post formal notices and agendas in accordance with Brown Act timelines.
Why it matters: Certification of Measure FP clears the way for the City to proceed with bond‑funded public safety projects and for the commission to monitor budget‑related items. The commission’s scheduling and selection of prioritized budget items will determine what staff briefings arrive in early 2025.
What’s next: Staff will return with itemized budget briefings as requested, the police will continue community‑policing events and volunteer coordination, and the commission will review the draft advisory memo on truck enforcement after staff circulates proposed language.
