Franklin County public works reports round-the-clock snow operations; commission hears community event announcements

Franklin County public works staff told the commission on Feb. 19 that crews have worked continuous shifts since the snow began and that night crews made significant progress when winds settled.
A county staff member described electronics problems caused by the cold as minor and said crews had not missed work on road coverage despite double shifts and employees’ other seasonal responsibilities, such as livestock calving.
The county plans to "bleed" secondary roads during the event and to continue clearing drifts; staff said they had not found any roads impassable to a two-wheel-drive car in the segments recorded.
Separately, Commissioner Paul (first name only in transcript) reminded the public about a Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge at Ottawa University next Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon, noting seven businesses will participate and the event is open to the public on a come-and-go basis with trade-show booths, presentations, and refreshments.
Commissioner Janet (first name only in transcript) reported attending a Chamber Coffee last Friday celebrating 75 years of a local co-op; she described it as an example of community groups using their building for events.
The commission adjourned after the announcements.
