The North Logan City Library Board met Jan. 9 and discussed several fundraising and event-planning items, including replacing a previously used silent auction with a suggested-donation raffle, adding concessions sales at the city's Pumpkin Walk as a library fundraiser, and troubleshooting a ticketing price error for the library's Feb. 22 Jane Austen event.
Board members said the raffle will ask for a suggested $5 donation per ticket rather than a fixed bid, and that the library will accept Venmo and cash at events. Library organizers described the change as easier to run and less costly than the platform they had used for a silent auction (previously about $300 for the online site). Library staff also reported plans to tie raffle donations to specific items or areas (for example, a demonstration-kitchen registry through the local business Love to Cook), and to offer donor recognition tiers tied to named spaces or a fundraising wall planned for the facility project.
That planning includes work with an intern from Utah State University on a marketing pamphlet and a suggested donor range that will include smaller gifts (for example, $50'$100) as well as larger solicitations. Board members suggested engaging other community groups and youth volunteers to staff concession stands for large community events to increase revenue while keeping the Pumpkin Walk free for attendees.
On event operations, the board discussed a ticketing pricing discrepancy for the Jane Austen fundraiser that had led to reduced revenue on some online sales; meeting discussion estimated the shortfall at roughly $150. Library staff said the vendor corrected the online pricing before the meeting and that the library will review affected transactions and may contact buyers to offer the chance to donate the difference. The board also discussed adding a library point-of-sale/reservation system as the facility project advances so that future event sales and facility reservations can be handled directly by library staff.
Votes at a glance: The board voted to approve the November 2024 minutes and later moved to close the meeting. Both motions passed; the meeting record shows no roll-call vote and the board reported the measures passed unanimously.
The board scheduled continued planning work on fundraising tiers, raffle logistics and the Jane Austen event; staff will follow up on point-of-sale options and contact a small number of ticket buyers where appropriate.
Ending: Board members said they will continue fundraising planning and report back at the next meeting on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m.
