The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners met by teleconference and voted to extend a preliminary review in case 2024-I-285 and to approve further action in case 23-347 after holding an executive session during which Dr. Calvin Williams and his counsel participated.
Board Chair Kim LeBlanc called the meeting to order and conducted a roll call before moving the board into executive session to consider three agenda items, one of which involved Dr. Williams. John Kasla, who identified himself on the public record as counsel for Dr. Williams, told the board that Williams and attorney Blake Williams were on the Zoom call and that Williams wished to make a brief statement when his matter was taken up. "My name is John Kasla, and I also have on the Zoom call with me Blake Williams, and we are counsel for doctor Calvin Williams, who's also present on the Zoom call," Kasla said.
The board went into executive session and later returned to public session. In public session the board voted on two formal actions. The board voted to extend a preliminary review in case 2024-I-285; the motion was moved and seconded and the chair called for the ayes. No opposition or abstentions were recorded on the public record. The board also voted to approve further action in case 23-347; that motion was likewise moved, seconded and called, with no opposition or abstentions recorded.
Administratively, staff confirmed there were no public comments submitted for the meeting. Board staff member Jacinta verified participants' identities at the start of the call. Board coordinator Patty Dufresne was present on the stream and served as meeting coordinator; she was not identified as legal counsel. After the votes, board staff told counsel for Dr. Williams that he and his counsel would be contacted about next steps.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that passed by voice vote. The board did not take any other public actions at the conclusion of the session.
Because the board conducted deliberations in executive session, the public record here summarizes only the motions, attendance and procedural outcomes announced in public session.
