West Fargo commission directs bids for Westwood Addition street reconstruction

The West Fargo City Commission on Feb. 14 unanimously approved plans and specifications and directed city staff to advertise bids for Improvement District No. 3006, described in the meeting as the Westwood Addition reconstruction. City Engineer Dan Hanson told commissioners the schedule is intended to speed the project toward bidding and a March bid opening.

"It's a timely thing that's gonna be able to save us some time, to get the plans bid out," City Engineer Dan Hanson said during the presentation. Hanson said the plans and specifications have been developed and that directing advertisement would allow the city to open bids in March but did not provide a construction timeline or contract award date.

The commission approved the item after a motion by Commissioner Olson and a second by Commissioner Zundel. The vote was recorded as unanimous in favor.

The item was taken up on a special meeting agenda. Hanson noted that, under ordinary circumstances, the item would appear on a consent agenda but was presented on a regular agenda because this was a special meeting with no consent agenda. No substantive alterations to the plans or specifications were discussed during the meeting.

Earlier in the meeting the commission also approved the order of the agenda for the special meeting and approved the bills as distributed; commissioners said they had forwarded several questions about specific expenditures to Mr. Scott for follow-up. Both procedural motions passed by unanimous voice or roll-call votes.

Next steps the commission identified were directing staff to advertise for bids and open those bids in March. No contract award, construction start date, or budget total for the Improvement District were specified during the meeting.
