Lindon City Council adopts budget amendment, updates cemetery fees

The Lindon City Council on Monday approved Resolution 2025-4-R amending the fiscal year 2024–25 budget and updating the city fee schedule, including changes to cemetery charges for residents and nonresidents.
Finance and budget details explained: During a public hearing on the amendment, city staff said the proposal raises nonresident cemetery costs to roughly $3,300 out of pocket to match nearby jurisdictions while keeping a lower, packaged rate for city residents of about $1,600–$1,700 that would include interment. Public works director Juan Garrido said the change aims to “keep up with the Pleasant Grove line” and avoid becoming a lower-cost option that draws nonresident burials.
The council opened and closed the public hearing with no public comment on the amendments and then voted to adopt Resolution 2025-4-R. A separate procedural motion to approve the Jan. 21, 2025 meeting minutes also passed earlier in the meeting.
Council members and staff noted that the amendments include line items staff brought forward for unanticipated costs such as railroad crossing permit fees tied to the Heritage Trail permits; staff said some of those permit costs will be submitted as match or reimbursement as project accounting permits.
Mayor Carolyn Lundberg and city staff emphasized the city’s strong general-fund balance and noted the amendment is part of routine adjustments that keep the budget aligned with project timing and new costs.
The council approved the resolution by unanimous voice vote. Specific implementation items—such as the effective date for fee changes and whether particular permit costs will be reimbursed—were described in staff notes attached to the budget amendment and will be handled by finance staff as projects proceed.
The council also confirmed that the well-development contractor for Well No. 5 is expected to begin the week of Feb. 10, 2025, information staff had added to the amendment packet.
