Assembly Majority Leader Agi R. Curry presented the resolution, describing former President Carter’s post-presidential work and decades-long partnership with Habitat for Humanity. "This resolution establishes 12/29/2025 and annually thereafter as president Jimmy Carter Day," Agi R. Curry said, and described Carter’s "tireless service to others" and his involvement in building homes across California communities.
Assemblymember Gibson, a coauthor, praised Carter’s volunteerism with Habitat for Humanity and recalled seeing Carter at construction sites. Assemblymember Wicks highlighted Carter’s focus on housing and the role homeownership plays in building wealth for working families, saying participants should "let that work inspire us." Several members spoke in support and the leader opened the roll for coauthors; the clerk recorded 70 coauthors added.
With no further debate, the Assembly took a voice vote and the resolution was adopted. The resolution is ceremonial and does not appropriate funds or create new program authority; it establishes an annual commemoration date.
