Human Relations Commission reviews 2025 work plan; highlights immigrant outreach, homelessness, microgrants and youth programs

Commissioners on the Palo Alto Human Relations Commission spent the bulk of their Feb. 28 meeting reviewing and reprioritizing the HRC's 2025 work plan, confirming several standing responsibilities while elevating a set of short-term projects including immigrant outreach, community microgrants, homelessness outreach for RV dwellers, and youth-focused programming.

Staff said the work plan had been approved by City Council in October and described the Feb. 28 session as a "mini-retreat" to check progress, reprioritize actions, and leave bandwidth for unanticipated items. Staff asked commissioners to consider which items to prioritize, which to deprioritize, and who would co-sponsor new project items so those items would be "agenda-ready."

Priority actions and updates noted during the discussion included: - Know Your Rights (immigrant outreach): Commissioners reiterated outreach for a Know Your Rights session scheduled Feb. 27 that staff said would include a speaker from Catholic Charities, attorneys from the Asian Law Alliance for Q&A, and resource staff from the Palo Alto libraries; translation would be available via a city phone app and some bilingual presenters.
