Mental health leader Michael W. Bros honored with 2025 Lifetime Compassionate Tulsa Award

The Compassionate Tulsa Committee presented the 2025 Lifetime Compassionate Tulsa Award to Michael W. Bros, LCSW, at the Jan. 2025 meeting of the Tulsa Human Rights Commission.
Dr. Al Carlozzi, chair of the Compassionate Tulsa Committee, presented the award and described Bros's leadership at the Mental Health Association Tulsa, later renamed Mental Health Association Oklahoma. Carlozzi noted Bros had served about 27 years as CEO and praised his focus on services for people experiencing homelessness and mental illness. "He consistently inspires and empowers others to make a positive difference in the lives of others," Carlozzi said.
Speakers at the ceremony recounted Bros's long record of involvement in suicide-prevention training, affordable housing initiatives and collaboration with the Tulsa Day Center. Longtime staff member Karen LaPlante (identified in the meeting) told the commission Bros remained active in suicide-prevention efforts and QPR gatekeeper training even after his technical retirement as CEO in 2020.
Accepting the award, Bros thanked the Human Rights Commission and highlighted the role of the Mayor's Office of Equity and Resilience in supporting the commission's volunteer work. "I just wanna remind everyone everyone here again the importance of the Human Rights Commission," Bros said, adding that the commission's volunteer members work to ensure fair housing and services for vulnerable residents.
The presentation included applause and a short reception; no formal action or vote was recorded on the agenda item.
