Pleasant Grove council appoints Chane Jensen as chief building official

Pleasant Grove City Council unanimously appointed Chane Jensen as the city's chief building official during its Jan. 21 work session. City Administrator Scott Darrington told the council Jensen had completed the required certifications and recommended the appointment.

Darrington said the position is one that “is statutorily by state law” required to be appointed by the mayor and council and explained Jensen had recently obtained his final certification, making him eligible. “We are gonna hire our building inspector, Chane, to be our new building official,” Darrington said during the meeting.

Council Member Jensen moved to appoint Chane Jensen and Council Member Rogers seconded the motion. The council voted in favor; the motion passed unanimously, and the council administered an oath of office to Jensen at the meeting.

The council and staff noted the city had advertised and interviewed other candidates earlier and that Jensen had been with the department for about a year. Darrington said the building official role is “a tough position to fill” and that Jensen’s recent certification completed the qualifications.

No additional terms, salary changes or effective start date were stated on the record at the work session; the council limited its discussion to the appointment and the swearing-in ceremony. The council did not discuss any separate ordinance or employment contract during the public portion of the meeting.

Council members and staff congratulated Jensen after the oath. The appointment was recorded as a formal motion in the meeting minutes.
