Claremore recognizes two firefighters with Officer of the Year and Firefighter Cross honors

City officials said the Officer of the Year award honors Capt. McClain’s leadership, training and daily dedication to his crew and to public safety. Officials described McClain as a leader who "takes time to teach and guide his crew," emphasizing his role in crew development and public service.
The Firefighter Cross citation recounts an Oct. 29, 2024 response in which Engine 2 entered a smoke-filled residence. Lieutenant Conner made entry, located a victim and transported that person to safety, officials said. The presentation said Conner entered an "immediately dangerous to life or health atmosphere" to render aid.
Chief Douglas (introduced by the city manager for the presentation) and other city officials presented plaques and letters to the awardees; family members were invited to participate in photos and to join council members at the dais.
The recognitions were presented as part of the meeting’s awards and communications segment; no formal council vote was required for the presentations.
