Board defers special-event liquor-license approval for Gila Valley Samaritan Home Mardi Gras after date inconsistency

The Board of Supervisors was asked Feb. 3 to approve a special-event liquor license for a Mardi Gras fundraising event to benefit the Gila Valley Samaritan Home at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10385.
Planning and zoning director Steve McGoey noted the application listed the event on March 2 but the packet showed March 2 as a Sunday; he asked whether the applicant meant Saturday, March 1. Legal staff advised returning the item to allow correction of the application and processing by the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control.
"My application says this is Saturday, 3 2, but 3 2 is a Sunday," McGoey said. County legal staff recommended bringing the corrected application back to a future meeting rather than approving the packet with the ambiguous date.
Board members said they were inclined to support the event once corrected and asked staff to refile a properly dated application for formal consideration; no approval occurred on Feb. 3.
