Board ratifies amendment to detention medical agreement to add Dr. Lawrence Schiff as backup telehealth provider

The Board of Supervisors ratified an amendment Feb. 3 adding Dr. Lawrence Schiff as a backup medical provider for the detention medical unit.
Brian Douglas of the health department described Dr. Schiff as the contracted mental-health provider who is also a medical doctor and currently serves multiple detention centers in Arizona. Douglas said Dr. Schiff agreed to assist via telehealth at no additional cost to his existing contract and that county staff needed ratification because the service was used when other medical providers were on simultaneous vacation.
"Schiff is our contracted mental health provider. In addition, he is a medical doctor, and he's agreed to assist as a backup medical provider via telehealth," Douglas said. He added the arrangement would be used rarely but provided necessary coverage when primary providers were unavailable.
A motion to ratify the amendment was made and approved by voice vote.
