Lake County schedules community visioning events to kick off comprehensive-plan update

Lake County planning staff told the Planning Commission on Jan. 27 that the county will hold a series of public events the first week of February as part of the community values phase of the comprehensive-plan update and urged commissioners to attend at least one session.
Staff said the events are preparatory to the comprehensive-plan update and that the planning commission is authorized to participate in the development and adoption of the plan. Joey and Heather are part of the project management team for the outreach, staff said.
Staff listed three evening events from 6 to 8 p.m.: a Spanish-language session at Full Circle on the fourth, an event at the Southern Fire Station on the fifth, and a session at Freight on the sixth. Freight’s session will offer dinner; childcare and interpretation services will be available at the Freight event. Staff also said there will be daytime “pop-up” engagement at community coffee on Wednesday mornings starting at 8 a.m. and additional drop-in opportunities at locations including CMC, the library, the post office, Mountain View Village, City Hall, Market On Poplar and the Silver Llama. The outreach materials and a questionnaire are available in English and Spanish on the 1 Community Project website and in drop-off boxes around town.
“It's the planning commission that is authorized with the development and adoption of our new comprehensive plan,” a planning staff member said during the meeting, urging commissioner participation. Staff said calendar invites have been sent and that staff will circulate reminders.
Staff also reminded commissioners of a Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) training on land use and the public process scheduled for a Friday (staff provided a Zoom option and an in‑person option). Staff said the training will cover ex parte communication rules and other public‑hearing procedures.
Next steps: staff will continue outreach next week, return summarized community feedback to the commission, and incorporate those findings into draft plan materials for later public review and hearings.
