John (Canterbury Park) told commissioners that this past weekend's ISOC snowcross event drew about 13,000 people and that it was a strong start to the year. He said Canterbury had hosted an on-site accreditation review tied to safety and operating procedures; the accreditation manager told track staff the site-visit hearing "went very well" and the commission should receive a written report within about two weeks.
On construction, track staff said a December shift in operations caused a one-week delay; team members reported moving electronic gaming terminals back into the card room and closing the original front entrance while outdoor restaurant patio and layout changes proceed. Canterbury—s staff said the project remained on track for a mid-March to April completion window for major elements and that racing-season planning was underway with nonprofit partners.
Canterbury staff also mentioned longer-term pressure on purses and revenue from nearby casino changes and new gaming options. Commissioners and staff discussed coordinating with tribal and track partners this legislative session regarding sports-betting proposals that could affect purses and aftercare funding moving forward.
