Cass County Commission appoints Kathy Lambert interim county clerk

The Cass County Commission on Dec. 30 adopted Resolution No. 24-107 appointing Kathy Lambert as interim county clerk, voting 2-0 to approve the measure.
The appointment takes effect immediately and will remain in place until the governor names a county clerk, at which point the gubernatorial appointment will supersede the interim placement. Commissioners moved and seconded the resolution during the meeting; the motion passed with two votes in favor and none against.
Commissioners praised Lambert’s experience during a brief discussion before the vote. The presiding official said, "I know Kathy's had a lot of support. You've been here at the county for over 30 years." A member of the public, identified in the record as Mr. Spencer, addressed the commission during public comment and said, "I've been supporting her from day 1. She was my chief deputy, and I truly believe she's, dedicated to this county more than anybody I know as far as time and and work ethics and and determination." The transcript records no opposing public comments.
Meeting minutes from the Dec. 18 session were also approved earlier in the brief proceeding. Commissioners noted routine operational matters — including preparations by road and bridge staff for incoming snow — before adjourning.
Because the resolution is an interim appointment, the county said the governor’s eventual appointment will supersede Kathy Lambert’s interim status when issued. The resolution was recorded in the meeting as "Resolution 24-107."
