Madison County engineers outline timeline for major road projects, from Calhoun Station to Weisenberger

Representatives from Stantec, Garver, Michael Baker, Neal Schaffer, Wagner Engineering, Benchmark, Pickering and others briefed the Madison County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 20 about a slate of road, bridge and intersection projects across the county.

Tim Bryant, Madison County engineer, introduced quarterly updates for projects that include Calhoun Station Parkway, multiple segments of Stripling/Stripling Road, Stribling Road, Weisenberger Road, Yandell Road (several segments), Bozeman Road (phase 1 and 2), Reunion Parkway phase 2 and intersection improvements at Yandell and North Old Canton Road. Consultants reviewed survey, environmental, geotechnical, right-of-way and utility coordination work and gave projected milestones for the next quarter.

Highlights: - Calhoun Station Parkway (Stantec): project covers roughly 2 miles from Stout Road to Highway 22; topographic and geotechnical field work complete; consultants said they plan to fit final design in existing county right of way and do not anticipate utility relocations; target construction: summer 2026. - Stripling/Stribling Road segments (Garver, Michael Baker): survey and environmental work in progress, wetland delineation submitted to Corps for nationwide permit consideration; cultural resources surveys required; utility relocations could take 6–18 months in the worst case; expected construction: mid-2027 (subject to permitting and utility schedules). - Weisenberger Road (Neal Schaffer): the most complex project on the list (0.7 miles) with significant utility impacts (10 utilities identified), Bear Creek hydraulic modeling, coordination with Canadian National Railroad and an estimated project cost approaching $18–20 million; environmental work projected to finish in mid-2026; design complete by September 2027; construction likely in summer 2029. - Yandell Road (Wagner, Pickering, others): treated as a multi-segment program totaling about 3 miles; topographic and utility surveys ongoing with parcel impact studies underway; corridor widening to 100-foot right of way contemplated to allow up to five-lane cross-sections in places; preliminary construction start dates targeted for 2027 with multi-year construction windows. - Reunion Parkway phase 2 (Wagner/contractor Hempfield Construction): crews have installed curb, gutter, abutments and steel pilings for the interstate bridge; county shows estimated completion in July–August 2025; the overpass opening will not provide I-55 ramps until state funding and interstate widening are secured.

Consultants repeatedly flagged utilities and cultural-resource reviews as critical path items: several projects require archaeological or cultural surveys that could affect schedule if findings prompt further work. Engineers also emphasized coordination with MDOT on ties into state projects, notably MDOT's planned widening and ramps for I-55 near Reunion Parkway. Multiple presenters asked the board to approve continued community outreach: engineers confirmed they would meet with homeowner associations and city public-works directors as projects progress.

Board members asked for clearer cost estimates and for staff to work with lobbyists to pursue state funding for projects that will require major right-of-way or interchange work. County staff and consultants said they will return with fuller cost and right-of-way impact detail at the April update.
